A dangerous pest could be on the loose in California. The Diaprepes Root Weevil is native to the Caribbean, but has been found in shipments arriving here from Florida. It eats a wide variety of plants, about 270 in all, including citrus, peach, hibiscus, avocado, and even oak. Adult weevils feed on the leaves and the larvae feed on the root system. When combined, they will eventually kill the plant. If you see any of these weevils or collect a sample, please contact the California Department of Food and Agriculture. Visit them online at www.cdfa.ca.gov
