Robin, a lawn care company in Dallas, Texas, has begun offering robotic lawnmowing services. So far, the company has installed 50 robotic lawnmowers in the region, and plans to add an additional 50 to 100 each month. The robots operate similar to a Roomba vacuum, moving and mowing across the lawn in a random pattern. A wire fence keeps it from wandering into flowerbeds or the street. Additionally, it will stop and turn around if it bumps into anything, and the blades will stop if it is lifted off the ground. Robin offers the robotic lawnmowing service to homeowners for $99 per month, with the option to add additional services for an additional cost. A company representative will install the robotic mower and program it to mow a little bit each day. The company maintains the robot, rotates and sharpens blades, and makes programming adjustments as needed. Each robot is equipped with GPS and will not work if it is outside of its designated lawn area, deterring theft. Other benefits include zero emissions, quiet lawn care, and, of course, robots are cool.
