A riding lawn mower was ruined and a car was damaged when the mower of a landscape contractor caught fire in October. While the worker was able to escape with being hurt, the incident reinforces the need to perform preventative maintenance on all equipment. Occurring in Ypsilanti, Mich., Fire Captain Michelle Stanbury said the worker for a lawn care company felt his seat get warm and noticed the tractor was on fire at about 5 p.m. at the Rivers Edge Apartments. She said the man jumped off, but the tractor was near a Dodge Neon. Stanbury said the $7,000 tractor was ruined, and the front end of the Dodge Neon was melted and the hood was scorched.
