R.I. ASLA Chapter Supports Legislation

Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J. has introduced the Livable Communities Act of 2011 that is supported by the Rhode Island ASLA Chapter.

The Rhode Island Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects is supporting the Livable Communities Act.

Senator Robert Menendez (N.J.) has introduced S. 1621 the Livable Communities Act of 2011. The LCA would assist regions, cities, and towns in taking a long term planning approach to growth, through better alignment of transportation, housing, land use, and economic development, authorize the Sustainable Communities Partnership among the US Department of Transportation, the US Environmental Protection Agency and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The bill would also create a loan program for infrastructure improvements (streetscape, utilities) in preparation for transit-oriented development.
