Monroe Miller, 62, is retiring after 35 years as superintendent at Blackhawk Country Club in Madison, Wisconsin.

Miller started with the club in January 1973 and he leaves it as one of the most beautiful and beautifully conditioned courses in the Midwest. He also worked hard over the years to keep Blackhawk environmentally sound.

Miller was never the kind of greens superintendent who hung around the club for lunches in its restaurant. He tended to the golf course and was always the opposite of flamboyant.
