Over the past six years, Riverview Tree and Landscaping has been the principle landscape contractor for the HBA Restoring Hope Foundation, a West Lawn, Pa., based nonprofit organization helping renovate the homes of families in need. The contractor is one of the foundation's greatest pro bono resources. "The Foundation was started after the television show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition remodeled a Berks County home, said Diane Salks, Riverview president and Restoring Hope Foundation chair. "Many of the contractors who helped with the show really enjoyed giving back to their community and decided that they would like to continue to work on home makeovers on a smaller scale." The volunteer landscape crew led by a professional landscaper completed the work in three days. Due to time constraints, the installation had to be done while work on the rest of the house was underway. The landscape work needed to compete with all of the other projects including the installation of an AC condenser unit and mini splits, windows, roof, and porch. The landscape team had to navigate around the other trades at work to remove old plantings, vines from a large existing Arborvitae and dead wood from established trees, and install edging, planting soil, shrubs, trees, perennials, rocks and mulch. The contractor, foundation and community volunteers provided all materials and labor for this project.
