Renewal & Remembrance Returns to Arlington National Cemetery for 20th Year
NALP's Annual Volunteer Day of Service Is July 11, 2016

Last year the National Association of Landscape Professionals brought together over 400 volunteers to work on 200 acres of Arlington National Cemetery, mulching, pruning, aerating, planting, liming and applying gypsum.

On Monday, July 11, hundreds of National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) members will gather at Arlington National Cemetery to help beautify a large part of the cemetery's historic grounds as part of "Renewal & Remembrance" https://tinyurl.com/zdxfxc9.

This year marks the 20th year of the event, which was started by members of the Professional Lawn Care Association of America as a way to give back when they visited Washington, D.C., each year for Legislative Day on the Hill.

NALP volunteers work with and are guided by the Arlington National Cemetery horticulture staff. The scope of work can vary. After several years of volunteers applying lime applications at Arlington, lime isn't required this year. This year work will include phosphorous applications; aeration; irrigation installation/repairs; tree cabling and lightning protection; plus various landscape and hardscape projects. Teams will be using push spreaders and walk-behind aerators, among other equipment.

NALP CEO Sabeena Hickman, CAE, said that many lawn care and landscape companies come back every year to show their commitment to the landscape industry, and to the importance of caring for this treasured national landmark.

Renewal & Remembrance continues to be held in conjunction with Legislative Day on the Hill, an event open to the entire industry, while registration for Renewal & Remembrance is open to NALP members. Participation is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
