Renewal for Nebraska Governor's Mansion Objective is to open area to greater public use LINCOLN, Neb.-Governor Mike Johanns and first lady Stephanie Johanns announced details of a $750,000 landscaping renewal project for the Governor's residence. The centerpiece of the new design will be a revamped fountain in the backyard of the residence and improved outdoor space for visitors to the residence. Work on the project will begin next spring and should be completed by the fall of 2001. "Stephanie and I are very excited about this project," Johanns said. "This is an opportunity to renew the landscaping and make the grounds of the residence more open and available for public use." The State of Nebraska is expected to contribute $150,000 to make the revamped residence grounds wheelchair accessible and in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. More than $75,000 has already been committed to the project by private contributors. The governor and first lady will seek the remaining $325,000 from private and non-profit sources.
