The dawning of a new year tends to allow us to reflect on events, both good and bad, of the year that is drawing to a close. We fondly remember the excitement generated by our sports heroes as they try to achieve a championship season. We look back at our favorite movies, television shows and music produced in 2002 that have left an indelible mark on the year, and we look at the triumph of the American spirit as the nations rebuilds after the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001. This December issue of LASN is devoted to remembering the year that was in the land development industry and looking forward to 2003 and what the new year holds for the industry. We will take a look back at the numerous trade shows that took place in 2002, highlighting the notable news from the shows, and offer a listing of shows scheduled for 2003. We will also provide our readers with industry forecasts for the upcoming year and offer our predictions in a variety of categories, including construction and the economy. In addition, LASN will provide a detailed listing of licensure and legislation issues from around the country that directly affect that landscape architecture profession. We begin by honoring the talented professionals who made significant contributions to the landscape architecture community. Here are some of the notable names who have left us.
