Reich Landscape Architecture, LLC

Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Reich Landscape Architecture (Reich) was founded by Dr. Roberth S. Reich, FASLA, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1962 - the oldest continually operating landscape architecture firm in the state. With a legacy of award-winning design expertise, the 8-person team at Reich produces unique solutions under the founder's son, principal William (Bill) Reich, PLA, ASLA, CLARB. Reich's commitment to excellence is inspired by defining the perfect balance between the natural environment, the built environment, and the cultural experience. Following this guiding principle, the firm has successfully navigated project constraints to deliver aesthetically pleasing and functional spaces that serve local and regional communities. The Reich team is deeply passionate about collaborating with other design disciplines to meet the rising need for climate-resilient communities in the Gulf Coast region. Many of Reich's projects have been recognized and awarded for their design solutions and success by organizations such as the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the Louisiana Chapter of ASLA, the Louisiana Chapter of USGBC, and the city of Baton Rouge.

Rouzan Silo Farm; Baton Rouge, LA

The Rouzan Silo Farm was designed in the shadow of two iconic silos as a reflection of the agricultural DNA of the Rouzan Community neighborhood developed on what was once a family farm. Food plots provide the neighborhood with opportunities to engage with one another and to produce their own, organically grown fruits and vegetables. It also includes areas designed for cooking classes and special events. The Silo Farm promotes healthy lifestyles and improves the overall quality of life for residents in the community, earning it a 2023 Baton Rouge Good Growth Award and 2022 LCASLA Merit Award.

Downtown Greenway; Baton Rouge, LA

The Downtown Greenway is a 2.75-mile, phased trail system of bicycle and pedestrian paths connecting historic and inner-city neighborhoods to seven existing public parks and attractions in Downtown Baton Rouge. The first phase extended the historic North Boulevard median as a pedestrian and biking corridor with separate bicycle and pedestrian paths, median crossings, seating areas, ADA-accessible ramps, lighting, workout areas, bike racks, and repair stations in a lush garden setting. The team designed a sustainable, safe, and functional transportation route, providing connectivity to the downtown core and creating culturally relevant experiences along the corridor. The project was given the 2019 LCASLA President's Award of Excellence.

The Assisi Garden at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center; Baton Rouge, LA

The challenges and opportunities for the Assisi Garden focused on creating a visually stimulating, spiritually inspired, sustainable, and functional space that allows for a variety of programming within the narrow, interstitial space between a multi-level parking structure and new patient tower. Reich's design softens and buffers the canyon-like void to create a pedestrian-scaled space. The verdant plantings, comfortable shaded seating areas, and gentle sounds of water bring a sense of peace to patients, medical staff, and visitors. The result is a garden that is beautiful and serene at the pedestrian level while providing a strong visual focal point from any level of the adjacent structures.

Liberty Magnet High School; Baton Rogue, LA

The redesigned Liberty Magnet High School functions like a small college campus, featuring a commons area and separate academies for different disciplines. The design centers around a bioswale that weaves through outdoor classrooms and plazas, utilizing large sweeps of grasses, aggregates, and moss boulders to invite engagement with natural processes. An outdoor amphitheater embedded in the slopes of the central stormwater detention area is designed to accommodate excess rainfall. Sports fields, plazas, and outdoor classrooms use existing topography to inform drainage and preserve the numerous existing Live Oaks. The project received a 2018 PGASLA Honor Award, a 2019 USGBC Excellence in Sustainability Award, and a 2019 LCASLA Merit Award.

As seen in LASN magazine, October 2025.
