The city of Santa Clarita and the Castaic Lake Water Agency published "SCV Colorful Landscapes for Water Conservation," today, in an effort to reduce garden water usage. The booklet is available free of charge.

With minimal rainfall and the hot, dry summer months upon us, the city encourages residents to carefully manage our "limited water supply."

The booklet was designed with the assistance of local business owner Richard Green of Green Landscape Nursery and contains photographs and detailed information about local plants that thrive on minimal water, how to best water lawns and plants, photographs of low water use landscapes and tips for reducing landscape water consumption in the valley.

"Even though conservation efforts are largely focused on reducing landscape use, residents can still enjoy beautiful and colorful landscapes," Mayor Laurene Weste said. "The free booklet is one of the best resources I've ever seen for Santa Clarita residents who are looking to create beautiful and low water use lawns and gardens. I highly recommend it."

The booklet also includes information about a series of free workshops offered at the CLWA Rio Vista Water Treatment Plant and Conservatory Garden, located at 27234 Bouquet Canyon Road, 91350.

The classes include landscape design principles, and information about trees, soils, fertilizers, weed and pest abatement products.
