Spread over 125 acres on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills, a $150-million Home Depot Center represents the largest investment in amateur athletics ever made. Featuring a 27,000-seat soccer stadium, a 13,000-seat tennis stadium, and a 20,000-seat track and field facility, the center offers Olympic, amateur, and professional American athletes a state-of-the-art facility among the finest anywhere in the world. Elite organizations such as U.S.A. Cycling, U.S. Track & Field, and the U.S. Tennis Association have designated the site an official training center, and its long list of users include the 2002 MLS Cup Champion Los Angeles Galaxy and the NFL's San Diego Chargers.
Naturally, visitors to this flagship facility expect to see everything in perfect condition. Sustaining a high level of maintenance is no easy task, considering the site includes nine soccer fields and 30 tennis courts beyond the central stadium. That's where Rain Master comes in. Their Evolution Central Control System keeps everything healthy and green under the dry California sun.
?EUR??,,????'??We have over 1.2 million square feet of irrigated land. That includes some 900,000 square feet of sod, and over 10,000 plants, flowers and trees,?EUR??,,????'?? explains Kyle Waters, director of turf and grounds at the complex. ?EUR??,,????'??If you miss a few days of watering in this environment, plants will die. And if I lose some grass, we lose money, and I might lose my job.?EUR??,,????'?? In 2003, the Home Depot Center hosted such premier athletic events as the MLS All-Star Game, MLS Cup and FIFA Women's World Cup Championship game. Some of this year's featured events include the NCAA Men's College Cup, the U.S.A. Sevens Rugby Tournament and the FIVB/AVP Beach Volleyball Olympic Qualifier. Looking ahead, the 2005 World Track Cycling Championships and the 2006 IAAF World Cup for Track & Field are already scheduled for the future.
Undoubtedly, these events will continue to bring the world's finest athletes to enjoy the center's showcase facilities, and all the spotless green fields they will see are also a showcase for the work of Kyle Waters and Rain Master's Evolution Central System.
