Rain Bird Corp. has announced its membership in the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a coalition of leaders promoting environmental-responsible construction.
One of this group's main initiatives is Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), a 69 point-based standard for efficient, sustainable design. Five of the points pertain to water efficiency. Two of the five points relate to irrigation and are designated "water efficient landscaping."
Rain Bird will work with council members to develop LEED requirements and work with other landscape professionals to educate them on designing water efficient irrigation, which can include controllers, pressure regulators, efficient nozzles, automatic shut-off devices and drip irrigation. Use of nonpotable water is one factor toward earning LEED irrigation points. Rain Bird notes it has developed a line of products ?EUR??,,????'??designed especially for use with nonpotable water.?EUR??,,????'??
