Plans for a new city park in the Santa Fe Railyard aren?EUR??,,????'???t sitting well with a handful of local landscape architects, artists and neighbors who published a critical report in February.
Seven people who call themselves the Citizens?EUR??,,????'??? Railyard Park Committee wrote a Railyard Park Manifesto that says the park plans are ?EUR??,,????'??poorly conceived?EUR??,,????'?? and will ?EUR??,,????'??produce an expensive, unattractive and dysfunctional public space if implemented.?EUR??,,????'??
The Trust for Public Land is building the 10-acre Railyard park along with three acres of walkways and a plaza as part of the city?EUR??,,????'???s redevelopment of land along the railroad tracks downtown. The group held a design contest in 2002, selected a team of East Coast artists and landscapers to build the park, and has held several public meetings. Construction costs are expected to run about $7 million, all of which the Trust for Public Land is collecting through fundraising efforts.
The dissenters, including Craig Campbell and Laura Wilson , disapprove of several park features, including the use of stone gabions that will separate the park from Cerrillos Road.
