Landscape architect Dick Glanville of Glanville and Associates received the Quality of Life Green Award from the San Anselmo Town Council on August 5, 2013 for volunteering his professional services to San Anselmo, Calif., on and off since 1999.

San Anselmo (pop. 12,336) is in Marin County, 20 miles north of San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge.

His volunteer work includes: replanting five of the town's diseased elm trees; assisting with the rain garden at the library, tennis courts at Memorial Park and landscaping at the firehouse after a flood. At the school his children attended he help build the first Wade Thomas Garden, built a stone wall in front of the gym and recalls installing a softball field at the school with volunteer labor.

He also worked for decades on affordable housing projects for the San Rafael-based Ecumenical Association for Housing. This work was paid, but his fees, he told the local media, were so low his firm just broke even.
