At the National Design Awards at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York City (cooperhewitt.org/NDA) October 18, 2007, the Landscape Design award went to PWP Landscape Architecture, the firm that won the World Trade Center Memorial design competition with Michael Arad. Awards were also presented for Lifetime Achievement; Design Patron; Design Mind; Corporate Achievement; Architecture Design; Communications Design; Fashion Design; Interior Design; Product Design; and Special Jury Commendation. PWP Principal Peter Walker thanked Mayor Bloomberg and Governor Pataki and described the last four years as ?EUR??,,????'?????<????????difficult,?EUR??,,????'?????<???????? apparently alluding to the number of redesigns and challenges with the World Trade Center Memorial design. PWP is based in Berkeley, Calif. Mr. Walker has a half century of experience in the field of landscape architecture. His firm?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??s work ranges from urban design and planning for public parks and university campuses to corporate headquarters, museums, plazas and private gardens. His design are seen at Stanford University?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??s Center for Clinical Science Research; the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art in Japan; the Millennium Parklands in Sydney, Australia; and the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas. Field Operations and Ken Smith Landscape Architecture were honored as finalists for the Landscape Design Award. James Corner founded Field Operations in 1998. He?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??s known for his design of NYC?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??s High Line. His offices are in New York and Philadelphia. Ken Smith Landscape Architecture is based in New York. He is designing the Great Park in Orange County, Calif. His designs include MoMA?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??s fake garden, the PS-19 schoolyard and the East River Waterfront project. He also decorated the Cooper-Hewitt during last year?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??s National Design Triennial. |
