Dateline 1/2/97 Well the New Year is already in full swing, as most of LASN's staff are putting the finishing touches on the February "Resort Development" issue. This, of course, includes our newly appointed Editor Heather Duval (pronounced "Du Val" (as in Val Kilmer)). As many of you know. Heather has been with LASN for about three years and fills the void left by Perri Peairs who resigned last October. Among her many accomplishments. Heather has been instrumental with the development of Landscape OnLine's Editorial Departments, which now include hundreds of past articles, news items, associations and technical research on an ever-growing number of subjects. Starting with this issue, every issue of LASN will be put "On-line" with full color graphics available for viewing and downloading. More Toys to Play With . . . Also new this year is LASN's Rapid Response Information Connection. As a reader looking for information on products or services advertised in LASN, you can either select specific company information or request information from every advertiser in a given product category. Be sure to include your phone number and E-Mail address. LASN will be sending the vendors your new request every week, making this the fastest written response turnaround in the industry! (*Advertisers, to join in on LASN's Rapid Response Information Connection, be sure to secure your E-Mail address and get it to LASN right away.) Way to go .... Congratulations to the newest most famous Landscape Architect . . . Heisman Trophy winner and Rookie of the Year in the NFL. . . Eddie George . . . who came within 150 yards of also being the most prolific running back of the year. Hey Eddie . . . Take as long as you want to join us professionally, and when you're ready, we at LASN look forward to writing about your future scores!!' LA'S on TV . . . Did any of you see the Major Network Christmas Special starring Andrew McCarthy who played a Shirt & Tie Landscape Architect, working for the Rockefeller Center, in search of a perfect Christmas tree? That's the best two hours LA'S have ever had on TV, even beating out Gene Hackman's reference to Landscape Architects at the Academy awards. . . Come on Angela Lansbury .... Fight the good fight . . . Yes, there is more on the licensure fight in California. It seems that with a newly Democratic majority, California legislators may be less apt to follow the Republican Governor Wilson's spastic attempts to eliminate the profession. Unfortunately, there seems to be a lack of assertion coming from the powers of this profession. We are all waiting to see the spot bills from Don Craig and hear how ASLA groups plan to capitalize on the situation. Please, oh please take advantage of the opportunity and mobilize for growth ... For more conversation, news items and registration updates on the California Licensure battle access www.landscapearchitect.com and go to LASN Editorial, "Registration". Keep an eye out . . . In 1997 LASN is currently scheduled to be in Scottsdale, AZ, Minneapolis, MN, Nashville, TN, Long Beach, CA, New York, NY, Philadelphia, PA, Salt Lake City, UT, and Atlanta, GA. If you live in these areas and would like LASN to do a "Walk Through" of one or more of your projects, phone us, fax us or send us your E-Mail right away. Well that's it for now. I wish you all the very best of success for 1997. I hope to see as many of you as possible. Thanks for all your cards and letters . . .
