Tariffs affect the irrigation industry as well.

While China is imposing tariffs on U.S. imports starting today after the White House announced a new round of tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China, the Irrigation Association has their concerns. This comes on the heels of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) releasing a statement voicing the association's concerns for housing affordability.

These imposed taxes include a 25% duty on Canadian and Mexican products and a 10% duty on Chinese imports which would directly affect the irrigation industry. Further, Mexico has delayed the implementation of tariffs for one month following more discussions between diplomats regarding border security.

"These tariffs will have wide-ranging effects across the irrigation sector," said Nathan Bowen, vice president of policy and industry advancement at the Irrigation Association. "Manufacturers, distributors, and contractors who rely on globally sourced components will likely see increased costs, while some U.S.-based manufacturers may benefit from reduced foreign competition. The full impact will depend on how trade negotiations evolve in the coming days and weeks."

Irrigation products like controllers, valves, and piping materials are sourced globally which will be directly affected by this tax. President Trump and the leaders of Mexico and Canada struck last-minute deals on Monday to postpone the tariffs. LASN will continue to update this story.
