When Playworld Systems CEO Matt Miller thought about making his playground and fitness equipment more sustainable, the question wasn’t “why?” but “when?”
Now the company announces its 2010 catalog has been Cradle-to-Cradle (CTC) basic certified. CTC is a proprietary certification of McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry, a “holistic economic, industrial and social framework that seeks to create systems that are not just efficient but essentially waste free.”
This certification evaluates the design of products, their chemical make-up (down to parts per million), practices employed during manufacturing and their renewability/reusability.
Miller said the company is doing more than simply removing potentially harmful materials.
“This independent certification proves (we are) lessening our impact on the planet beyond industry standards and laws."
