Congratulations go out to Landscape Architect and Playground Designer Robert Mowat, recognized by the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) for his work at Katherine Delmar Burke School in San Francisco. This annual design competition among architects from the United States, Canada and Mexico results in awards for projects based on quality of design, functionalism and environmental responsibility. Mowat's winning creation consists of three courtyards filled with concrete maps of the continents and a brass-strip time line marked by icons representing historical events. The courtyards are utilized as educational and recreational areas. See his project profile in our October 1997 Issue, "Room 4 Play & Playgrounds."
