Planning Commission Recommends Using L.A.s

The Jefferson City Planning Board in Georgia approved by a 3-2 vote to limit the size of ?EUR??,,????'??big box?EUR??,,????'?? outlets, such as Super Wal-Mart stores. The Jefferson City Council has the final say on the matter. The proposal, initiated by the Quad Cities Planning Commission (QCPC), irked local developers who expressed their ire at an Oct. 4, 2005 meeting.

The planning commission also recommended the city put in place codes requiring an environmental impact statement and market analysis for any commercial development over 20,000 square feet and restricting commercial parking lots from being used for outdoor storage.

The QCPC also made subdivison development recommendations that include requiring a Georgia registered Landscape Architect for entry landscape plans of residential subdivisions with monument entryways and the requirement of a tree survey for all residential zoning proposals to ensure preservation of all specimen trees on the property, including all hardwoods, such as maples and oaks and ornamental trees, e.g., dogwoods.
