The Professional Landcare Network has signed on as a Bronze level sponsor of the four-year Grass Roots exhibit at the National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. The exhibit, which will run for four years, will open to the public this summer. The National Arboretum, part of the United States Department of Agriculture, Agriculture Research Service, has partnered with the National Turfgrass Federation to create this interactive exhibit which will educate the public about the science of grasses, the single most frequently used landscape plant in the United States. "PLANET leadership feels strongly about the need to support this national educational project which promotes understanding about the benefits of turfgrasses," explained Glenn Jacobsen, Landscape Industry Certified, president of PLANET. "We encourage the rest of the industry to support the exhibit as well." The project, which is the first of its kind in the nation to feature an exhibit solely devoted to grasses, will include an outdoor exhibit spread over an acre of space and will have 14 education stations, symposia, workshops, and demonstrations, all aimed at expanding knowledge at a range of levels"?ufrom school children to policymakers"?uabout the importance of turf and turf research to the landscape and the environment. The National Arboretum attracts 500,000 visitors annually. For more information about the project, go to www.usna.usda.gov/Education/turfgrass.html.
