WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 16TH
9:00 - 10:30 AM
Pesticide Laws & Regulations, Cynthia Ray
This course will give attendees an update on pesticide laws and regulations, the Department of Pesticide Regulation in general, and policy will also be discussed.

Weed Control Options for Turfgrass, Jim Baird
This presentation will focus on chemical options and strategies for controlling the most prevalent weed species in Southern California, including existing and soon-to-be-registered herbicides.

Treating Invasive Pests & Diseases in Trees with Trunk Injection, Lee Mangum
This course will discuss the scope of current invasive insect species and how they are treated using trunk injection as an effective and environmentally way to treat trees. Also discussed are the ways to set up a research trial on insects, which includes the new Polyphagous Shot Hole Borer (PSHB), which is poised to inflict major damage to our urban forest here in southern California.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 17TH

Pesticide Safety, Bert Lopez
This course will cover new pyrethroid insecticide rules and regulations with regard to contamination of waterways. Attendees will learn how to prevent water contamination as well as new applications and techniques. CEU Accreditation: DPR, PLANET


11:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Integrated Pest Control for Turfgrass, Marco Schiavon
This course will use existing knowledge to focus on integrated pest management techniques currently utilized in turfgrass. All the pest control approaches (chemical and biological control, species selection, correct irrigation practices) and strategies for their combination will be reviewed and analyzed.

1:30 - 3:00 PM
Weed Control in the Landscape, Will Harrison
This course will discuss various landscape management inputs to minimize weed growth, including water, fertilizer and plant selection. Options for pre-emergent and post-emergent weed control will also be discussed, attendees will learn: how to best use pre-emergent herbicides, correct application, how they work, correct timing, and commonly used post-emergent herbicides.

3:30 - 5:00 PM
Beneficial Insects in the Landscape, Lorelei Hill
This course will give an overview of various beneficial insects available for commercial use and how they can be incorporated into any landscape maintenance program. Go beyond Ladybugs and learn about a dozen different beneficial insects, the pests they control and how to use them--including Cryptolaemus for Mealybug and Delphastus for whitefly control.
