LandscapeWebinars.org hosted a live and recorded session with horticulturist, Cliff Ruth on March 13 in the first of a series of webinars on soil testing and the result's solutions.
Titled, "Pre-Bid Soil Testing: Perc and Texture Testing Part 1" the session explained how to conduct a soil perc test to better understand how the soil drains.
Ruth explored the process of conducting an on-site test including the recommended hole size, corresponding tools, and what you're looking for. From there he gave an overall example of plantings and solutions for lower and higher percolation. Ruth's explanations were concise with a widespread understanding of a variety of places.
This session is the first of a two-part series of webinars with Ruth. The second one will be held on April 10. To watch this course OnDemand and to earn CEUs, click here: https://landscapewebinars.org/landscape-webinars/webinar/prebid-soil-testing-perc-and-texture-testing-part-1

Webinar Description: Attendees would learn the importance of conducting the first two of three soil tests that they should do prior to bidding on a landscape job or during the initial design phase of a project.
These two are: Perc Testing and Soil Texture Testing. These two are very similar in that they will help the contractor or designer know what to expect long term as to the drainage potential or water movement through the soil profile to better choose the right plants or prepare the site for healthy growth of the plants being installed.
