Will Schnell


Will Schnell, turf superintendent at the Rose Bowl, worked with The Toro Company in a team effort to prepare the Pasadena, Calif. field for this year’s Rose Bowl football classic. Toro mowers, utility equipment and irrigation control systems are used at the stadium throughout the year.






Chris Fay


Chris Fay, grounds manager at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, is president of the Professional Grounds Management Society. Fay took over from former president Todd Cochran at PGMS’s annual meeting on Nov. 6.

Chuck McIntire


Chuck McIntire, assumes the positions of vice president of Atlanta operations and business development manager for the newly-unified Professional Lawn Care Association of America, or PLCAA, and the Associated Landscape Contractors of America, or ALCA.






John Allin


John Allin, the founder of Erie, Pa.-based Snow Management Group has announced the company’s merger with Symbiot Business Group of Nicholasville, Ky. Snow Management Group is the largest snow removal company in the U.S., responsible for more than 5,000 sites in 42 states.






Creighton Smith


Creighton Smith, is Midwest region sales manager for irrigation giant Hunter Industries. Smith’s territory will also include southeast Missouri, Arkansas and Memphis, Tenn.






David F. Zoldoske


David F. Zoldoske is the Irrigation Association’s new president for 2005. He replaces former chief Brian Vinchesi. Zoldoske has served as director of the Center for Irrigation Technology at California State University, Fresno since 1994.






Kirk Hunter


Kirk Hunter will serve as Turfgrass Producers International, or TPI’s, executive director. Hunter is replacing longtime TPI executive director Doug Fender, who retired last fall.

Davis Sun Turf of Des Moines, Iowa welcomes Tim L. Bauer as sales and marketing manager of the company’s turf division. Mark Bergstrom joins Davis Sun’s sales staff in Sioux Falls, S.D. Josh Schull joins the company’s sales team in Des Moines.

Jim Doll joins Tecumseh Power Company as product manager for walk-behind mowers. He will be based in Grafton, Wis. In addition to mowers, Tecumseh builds compressors for refrigerators and air conditioners and engines for tractors, snow blowers, garden tillers, string trimmers and other outdoor equipment.

Walter Butman has joined erosion-control-product manufacturer Profile Products LLC as vice president of distribution and international sales. He will be based at company headquarters in Buffalo Grove, Ill.

Peter Dervin, executive director of the Washington Association of Landscape Professionals has acquired the ALCA’s Certified Landscape Professional status. The designation is given to professionals who pass a five-part exam that covers all aspects of working in the landscape industry.

Mary Ellen Copek is talent director for contractor Sukut Construction. She will oversee human resources in her new role with the Santa Ana, Calif.-based company that is a prime mover in earthmoving, storm and drainage systems and golf courses.

Michelle Bunch of Athens, Tenn. traveled to the 25th International Irrigation Show in Tampa, Fla. this November courtesy of the Irrigation Association. The IA paid for the trip to recognize the University of Tennessee student’s winning paper on conservation using reclaimed water.

Plant Health Care, or PHC, has entered into a long-term agreement for consumer product development with The Scotts Company. The agreement combines PHC’s expertise in mycorrhizal fungi and bacterial ingredients with Scott’s product development and marketing experience. The relationship will help bring “green” plant care products to a larger number of consumers, PHC chief John Brady said.

Walter Dahlberg, Paul Fields and Daniel Morgan are the new owners of Lambert’s, one of the Dallas, Texas area’s premier garden design and maintenance companies. The firm was founded by Joe and Henry Lambert in Dallas in 1935.

A partnership between the plant nutrients division of Moyer & Son and Willard Agri Service of Frederick, Md. has resulted in the birth of SynaTek, LP which unites the turf supply businesses of the two companies. SynaTek President Ken Clemmer said the new company will also deliver irrigation-driven fertilizer systems, water quality systems and other products essential to the golf, turf and ornamental plant markets.

Cherry Lake Tree Farm of Groveland, Fla. has been named Grower of the Year for 2004 by the Florida Nurserymen, Grower and Landscape Association, or FNGLA. Cherry Tree’s ranch has close to 1,000 acres in production with more than 50 varieties of trees ranging from crepe myrtles, oaks, hollies, maples, elms, junipers and others. The facility has close to 2 million trees in production.

Lee Powell, a co-owner of Garland Nursery in Corvallis, Ore., will lead the Oregon Association of Nurseries in 2005 as president of the group’s executive committee. Also serving on the committee are Pete Brentano, Dave Van Essen, Bob Terry, Tom McNabb and Mac McCarter. The volunteers will serve through September.
