Pennsylvania Legislature Passes Blight Bill




A bill pending signing by Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell would allow neighborhoods to rid themselves of abandoned and blighted properties by giving advocate groups and court judges authority to take over unoccupied properties.

Pennsylvania has moved one step closer to cleaning up abandoned and blighted properties from its neighborhoods.

The Pennsylvania House has sent the Abandoned and Blighted Property Conservatorship Act to Gov. Ed Rendell for signing, granting neighborhood advocates and Common Pleas Court judges authority to take unoccupied properties whose owners have allowed them to become eyesores.

The bill won the fight with property rights advocates by making stipulations to protect owners, Rep. Don Walko, D-Allegheny, said, ?EUR??,,????'?????<

Currently, taxpayers have no option beyond seeking a court order to force an owner to correct a violation or face being fined for failing to correct it. If an owner can?EUR??,,????'?????<
