Passage of Moving Forward Act Pleases NLC

House Moves it to Senate

Job growth is being muted and local economic activity reduced because of municipalities having to cancel infrastructure projects due to lack of funds.

After learning that the House passed the Moving Forward Act, Joe Buscaino, president of the National League of Cities stated that, if made into law, it will, "make realistic investments across the country to recover from COVID-19, rebuild our essential infrastructure, and create critical jobs in a time of growing unemployment."

NLC's Rebuild With Us campaign has been advocating for a comprehensive approach to infrastructure investments, not only roads and bridges, but also water and broadband. And, the campaign supports investments in human capital to make sure enough skilled workers are available.

The importance of this bill, according to Buscaino, is underlined by recent survey data from over 1,100 municipalities across the country, which found that 65% of them are having to delay or completely cancel capital expenditures and infrastructure projects.

""Congress should quickly bring both recovery and reinvestment bills to the President's desk and take home good news about how they will step up for communities and reinvest in the economic capability of our country," Buscaino concludes.
