by Staff

NRPA survey finds that the majority of adults feel calm or peaceful after spending time in their local parks.

NRPA's most recent monthly survey found that the majority of adults who spend time in their local parks feel calm or peaceful after their visit. Though parks offer many opportunities to boost physical health, they also provide mental health benefits. In February, 92% of adults from all ages and backgrounds reported experiencing a positive effect on their mental health after visiting their local park, with 59% of adults feeling Calm/Peaceful while Happy/Joyful came in a close second at 46%.

The survey also revealed that individuals from households with three or more people are more likely to feel Happy/Joyful (52%) compared to individuals who live with one other person (42%) or by themselves (34%). Nearly 3 in 5 parents feel Happy/Joyful while those representing larger households also feel Energized after visiting their local parks.
Though experiencing Focus and Inspiration ranked lowest across all demographics, Gen Z individuals and those with teenage children in the home reported noticeably higher instances of feeling inspired or focused compared to their counterparts.
