Areas around the Morgan Falls Dam in Sandy Springs, Georgia will be improved if a $5 million budget measure is approved by city officials. Plans call for a renovated boat ramp, children's play areas, a fishing pier and the potential for a pedestrian bridge crossing to Cobb County, Ga.

Sandy Springs, Ga. officials have approved a budget that includes up to $5 million for improvements to the suburban Atlanta city?EUR??,,????'???s only park on the Chattahoochee River, Morgan Falls Park.

The master plan for the 27 acres on the riverfront will be considered by the City Council in July, after a landscape architect presents a revised design.

The Sandy Springs council approved a portion of the master plan that will reconfigure and expand the youth football and baseball fields near the entrance to the park. It also approved plans for an off-leash dog park at Morgan Falls with separate enclosed areas for small and large pets.

The waterfront section of the park is expected to feature improved access to the river. The design for an area south of the Morgan Falls Dam includes a renovated boat ramp, children’s play areas, a fishing pier and the potential for a pedestrian bridge crossing to Cobb County.

The National Park Service is expected to hold a meeting with property owners and other interested parties, to discuss the possibility of the pedestrian link to national park holdings in Cobb.
