The wall will feature an inscription of names of all veterans, and a sundial at the site has been designed to always read "11 a.m.," in remembrance of Veteran's Day and the signing of the World War I Armistice.

It all began when Charlie Hogan started thinking about a little strip of land across from the Park City (Kentucky) Bank. The lot had been vacant for as long as he could remember. Hogan felt that it should be used for something. Slowly, an idea emerged.

"I looked at it and thought, 'that would be a great spot for a veteran?EUR??,,????'???s memorial,' " explained Hogan. "It's just a 50 by 150 foot piece of land that had been vacant for years. I thought Park City needed a memorial to United States veterans?EUR??,,????'??+not just of one war, but of all wars."

Armed with an idea that was quickly intensifying into a full-blown cause, Hogan, a 20-year Air Force veteran, decided to take action.

"I called a friend down at City Hall and asked him to find out how much the owner wanted for it," Hogan said. "He called back and told me the owner said if we wanted to use the land for a memorial, he'd give it to us for free. Isn't that something?"

Having secured the property, Hogan came into contact with Troy L. Brown, ASLA, of Bowling Green, Ky.-based Sitebrown, LLC. Park City's Veterans' Memorial was on a limited budget that required a great deal of voluntary support in both time and money. Brown was delighted when asked to help with the project and was willing to do in-kind services to help get the project off the ground.

The proposed memorial will have a sidewalk bordering all four sides, with an indented section on the south side containing shade trees and two park benches. The eastern side will feature an American flag with illuminating lights for night visibility, while the western side will contain four handicapped-accessible parking spaces. The spaces will be paved with special concrete blocks that are honeycombed, to allow grass to grow through the holes. This is designed to keep the green space uninterrupted while providing necessary support for vehicles.

The northern side will feature a "bump-out" to mirror the southern wall's indentation. Also featured on the same side will be a sundial turned to always read 11:00, in remembrance of Veteran's Day and the signing of the World War I Armistice. Behind the sundial will stand a colored concrete wall, where the names of all veterans will be inscribed.

Obtaining the funding to make this dream a reality is the last remaining obstacle. "We're going to solicit corporations for donations, as well as other groups," says Hogan. "I'm very confident we can raise the money. We?EUR??,,????'???ve raised money for other projects and been very successful. Troy's designed something that's just beautiful. Everyone loves to look at something that's beautiful and meaningful, even if they live in a little town of 500, like us. So we're going to build it and everybody?EUR??,,????'???s welcome to come and enjoy. I hope to see you there."
