Palm Trees Worth $50,000 Stolen by Landscaping Insiders

A truck stolen from a tree farm in Palm Beach County turned up over the weekend in a factory parking lot with the keys in the ignition. Yet in the place of the 10 Date Palms totaling $50,000 that had filled the 48-foot flatbed was just a pile of dirt.

The truck was stolen from Groundworks Nursery in Boynton Beach, FL. The company specializes in Date Palms, which they said look great and are very profitable. “We have been in business for 21 years and this has never happened before,” a representative said. “We specialize in this and we’re just in shock that this has happened.” No one noticed the truck was missing until its reappearance.

The 10 trees were each about 14 feet high and weighed about 4500 to 5000 pounds. “It would have to be a crane or big machine to take it out,?EUR??,,????'?? a driver for the company, Carlos Cuevas, said. “Somebody has to be already ready to receive the trees, holes dug probably and waiting for these trees to arrive.?EUR??,,????'?? Cuevas said that workers at Groundworks Nursery knew that these trees were ready for delivery. “I would say an inside job, somebody that maybe has visited the yard before.?EUR??,,????'??

Police said that while all the trees were tagged for inventory, the thieves most likely knew how to remove the tags if they were smart enough to pull off the theft. The missing trees will have likely taken root in South Florida by now.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
