A new motor technology could soon replace gas-powered outdoor power tools. CORE Outdoor Power's line of emission-free products, which currently includes blowers and hedge trimmers, is expected to expand next year.
The CORE motor technology, created over six years of development, embeds copper-etched conductors into a multi-layered printed circuit board to form a stator [the stationary part of a motor] that works produces torque via permanent magnets installed within. The new motor both ironless and wireless, according to the company's website.
CORE (Conductor Optimized Rotary Energy) power tools claim to be lighter, quieter, and emission-free, a unique claim for an industry increasingly regulated for particulate emissions and excessive noise. The equipment line from the Polson, Montana-based company is currently limited to weed trimmers, hedge trimmers and small blowers, but they are planning to add lawn mowers, backpack blowers and pruners by late 2013.
