One Tree Makes a Difference

The 30-foot-tall, 25,000-pound Triumph?EUR??,,????'?????????????? elm temporarily resides in the middle of Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago. It is festooned with 2,500 ribbons, each carrying a hand-written message from Chicago fourth graders on how trees make a difference to them.


You may know April 24 is Arbor Day. The Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Ill., just west of Chicago, has gone a step further, declaring April 18-26 Arbor Week. The Morton?EUR??,,????'?????<

As part of educating Chicago youngsters about trees, the Morton rolled out a teacher resources section on its website. The arboretum staff has enlisted Chicago Public School fourth graders in all 50 wards?EUR??,,????'?????<

The Grant Park planting will be one of many trees planted throughout Chicagoland.
