Olympia Gets Greener

Sylvester Park is named after Edmund Sylvester, a founder of the city of Olympia, who set aside the land as a public commons in 1850.

The city of Olympia, Wash. recently added five shade trees at Sylester Park, replacing four diseased maple trees that were removed last summer. Each of the new 15-foot swamp white oaks cost $170 and were donated by The Washington State Nursery & Landscape Association the Washington Community Forestry Council, Washington Friends of Farms & Forests, the Olympia Downtown Association and the city of Olympia. The saplings can live up to 300 years and reach heights of 80 to 90 feet.
