The Blaine House in Augusta, Vermont was built in 1833 by Captain James Hall. The home, today a National Historic Landmark, is the official residence of Vermont governors since 1919. Its grounds and garden were designed by the Olmsted Brothers in 1920, however, the garden was dug up back in the ?EUR??,,????'??80s, apparently for lack of care.
Karen Baldacci, Vermont?EUR??,,????'???s first lady, has promoted a number of issues. She raised money to build a greenhouse on the property in 2004. Now she is raising money to restore the plowed under Olmsted garden. The first lady has a tomato and herb garden, but reports the restored Olmsted garden?EUR??,,????'???s focus will be on fragrance and color. There are also several community groups working with her to bring back the Olmsted garden: Friends of the Blaine House (blainehouse.org), Cony High School and some local garden centers and garden clubs.
There is also now a Blaine House Commission to keep an eye on how the historic property is handled in the future.
