The Connecticut ASLA Chapter and the Connecticut Olmsted Heritage Alliance are co-hosting the Frederick Law Olmsted Day Celebration and Conference on April 26, 2007 in Bridgeport, Conn. Susan Rademacher, executive director of Philadelphia?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s Fairmount Park Conservancy, will discuss her work at the Conservancy, which raises money to reclaim Fairmount Park as a focal point for Philadelphia?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s economic development and neighborhood renewal. She was the founding executive director of the Louisville Olmsted Parks Conservancy and served jointly as assistant director of the Louisville, Ky. Metro Parks from 1991 to 2006. During that time her work included several master plans and capital projects representing total private investment exceeding $18 million. This park system consists of over 2,000 acres of parkland and over 15 miles of parkways and was the last park system designed by Frederick Law Olmsted in the 1890s. The other speaker will be Mary Witkowski, Bridgeport city historian, who will put the Bridgeport parks in the greater context of the development of the city. The outing of the event will be a bus tour of the Olmsted parks in Bridgeport led by Charles Brilvich, former city historian, and Stuart Sachs, ASLA. For more information visit ctasla.org
