Olmstead and the Devil in the White City

An interesting read for landscape architects is the nonfiction work by Erik Larson, Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic and Madness at the Fair That Changed America. He follows the exploits of the great men involved in the planning of the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, the "white city" of the title. The author profiles Daniel Burnham, the supervising architect, and give a lot of print to Frederick Olmstead, the landscape architect of the fair, who, of course, designed New York?EUR??,,????'???s Central Park.

The fair was a seminal event for American architecture and urban design, and, as the title indicates, darker forces in the city.
