Walking Tour
On October 26 the chapter took a trolley and walking tour of landscape architecture projects in Cleveland. The first stop was Cleveland Medical Mart & Convention Center, currently under construction, located one block north of Public Square. Next they went to Cleveland Clinic Heart Center, the first major project completed as part of the Cleveland Clinic Masterplan, consisting of two main parts, an entry all????(R)???(C)e and a large circular fountain.

Nearing the end of construction, the Uptown and Museum of Contemporary Art projects have already made a drastic impact within the University Circle area, made up the third part of the tour. One block away is the newly completed Mary and Al Schneider Healing Garden at University Hospitals. Perk Plaza in downtown was the fourth stop of the tour. Perk Plaza at Chester Commons has returned to a vital gathering place and amenity to serve nearby neighborhood residents.

Washington Park Redevelopment, Cincinnati
The Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. partnered with Cincinnati Park Board and landscape architects of Human Nature, Inc. to transform Washington Park from a dangerous, rundown area into a revitalized civic gathering space. The master plan expanded the park from six to eight acres in a dense urban neighborhood where green space is at a premium, and allowed the creation of a grand civic space opposite the Music Hall.

The Mary and Al Schneider Healing Garden was designed as an integral part of the new Seidman Cancer Center at University Hospitals of Cleveland, Case Medical Center. The tranquil garden, which is meant for cancer patients and survivors, staff, volunteers and families, is a whimsical island designed to calm and delight the senses amid a busy downtown setting.

At the Bridgestone America's Akron Technical Center a trail meanders through a short grass prairie and trees that frame the view of the center's new 33,000-gallon cistern.

Bridgestone America's Akron Technical Center

The new $100 million center starts a new chapter of the Firestone legacy, which began nearly 110 years ago and flourished from an alliance with Bridgestone Corp. in 1988, creating the world's largest tire and rubber company. The landscape architect planned the site to preserve trees, such as two black gums of sentimental value that were planted in 1950, and relocated them to a more open space.
