Kristine Stratton, president and CEO of NRPA, gave her congratulations to Haaland on her nomination. Stratton commented, "She has been a longtime champion for public parks as well as a supporter of funding for increased access to local parks and recreation through her leadership in Congress. She was a vocal supporter of the Great American Outdoors Act legislation passed this year that will greatly increase funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF)." She also went on to explain how Haaland's background as a Native American can be beneficial in her new position.

The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) gave their support to the recently nominated Secretary for the Department of the Interior, Deb Haaland. Haaland has served as a representative for New Mexico the last two years and is the former chairwomen of the Democratic Party of New Mexico.
