According to a recent survey conducted by the NRPA, six in seven U.S. adults believe that their local government should invest in safe and inclusive playgrounds for children.

The latest National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Park Pulse poll shows that 86% of U.S. adults believe it is important for their local government to make investments to ensure children have access to safe and inclusive playgrounds. Two-thirds of U.S. adults say it is very or extremely important for their local government to make these investments. The NRPA also found that 79% of millennials and 76% of parents believe it is very or extremely important for their local government to invest in safe playgrounds for children.

The study also shows that nearly all park and recreation agencies (95%) include playgrounds as part of their essential infrastructure, with professionals regularly performing safety inspections, maintenance, and equipment replacement. The NRPA stresses the need for safe and inclusive play opportunities, as their offerings reach over 40 million youth annually.

The NRPA emphasizes the importance of safe and inclusive play opportunities. The association offers a comprehensive certification program, the Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certification program, which trains professionals in playground safety issues, including hazard identification, equipment specifications, surfacing requirements, and risk management methods.
