The National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) is offering 45 scholarships for a National Green Infrastructure Certification Program (NGICP). The program, which runs from June to August 2023, will focus on green stormwater infrastructure construction, inspection, and maintenance through a combination of online learning, peer-to-peer knowledge transfer, and online classes with national instructors. The training will equip participants with knowledge to build and maintain successful green stormwater infrastructure projects in parks that provide multiple benefits to communities through community engagement and partnerships. Once the training is complete, individuals will be eligible to sit for the national exam to secure their NGICP certification, which is recognized by municipal agencies throughout the country.

 

NRPA is partnering with EnviroCert International Inc. (ECI) to deliver the NGICP curriculum to professionals who are responsible for the land management and maintenance and operations of municipal parks throughout the country. The trainings focus on building successful green stormwater infrastructure in parks. Since its inception in 2019, 51 professionals have been trained and certified in 30 states.

In addition to the NGICP training, NRPA offers the Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) Certificate Program, which provides a comprehensive step-by-step learning forum online in nine course modules and a review course module. The certificate program provides participants the assurance and foundation to successfully oversee a GSI project or program from planning to evaluation and every step in between. NRPA is also working in partnership with cities to support large scale, replicable park green infrastructure projects that will serve as case studies for park and recreation agencies.
