The NRPA will partner with Walmart and USDA to support development of Community Wellness Hubs
The Walmart Foundation and the United States Department of Agriculture's Farmers Market Promotion Program have both partnered with the National Recreation and Park Association to provide grants that will allow parks and recreation facilities to act as Community Wellness Hubs. These grants are meant to allow local parks to provide affordable food as well as a safe place to gather, all to help reduce food insecurity, in service of increasing health equity at the community level. Kellie May, NRPA Vice President of Programs and Partnerships said, "This funding will allow us to help park and recreation agencies grow beyond serving as partners in food access and to realize their full power as people-driven, community wellness hubs." The amount of funding received is over $3 million in total.
