Secretary Deb Haaland emphasizes the role of nature in climate resilience and building a sustainable economy. She states, "We are making coordinated investments to safeguard our National Park System, advance nature-based solutions in our efforts to address the climate crisis, safeguard endangered species, and ensure clean air and clean water for all."

The NPS projects will contribute to restore and conserve 30% of lands and waters by 2030. NPS Director Chuck Sams underscores the significance of the projects, particularly for small and rural communities surrounding national parks. Sams notes, "Many of these projects support restoration and resilience efforts in national parks located in small and rural communities, bringing much-needed investments and jobs that support the American economy while protecting and preserving our nation's most cherished places."

The $44 million investment will fund a total of 43 projects spanning 39 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Notable initiatives include the restoration of iconic redwood forests and watersheds in Redwood National and State Parks, efforts to prevent the extinction of Hawaiian Forest Birds by suppressing non-native mosquitoes, and the restoration of federally threatened Whitebark Pine ecosystems in several national parks.
