Sculptor Ann Weaver Norton (1905 -1982), the second wife of Ralph Norton, founder of the Norton Museum of Art, lived on the 1.7 acre property. The home is now on the National Register of Historic Places. There are more than 100 sculptures by Ann Norton on the property, including nine large works in brick and granite.

The gardens have already benefited from two donations: The New York Foundation for the Arts supplied a $15,000 grant, and the Gentleman of the Gardens donated more than $25,000 this year.

The gardens were designed by Ann Weaver Norton and by the late British Landscape Architect Sir Peter Smithers.
