North Carolina ASLA Chapter

The NCASLA Chapter's 2nd Annual Golf Tourney took place Sept. 29 at The Crossings Golf Club in Durham.

As 2017 comes to a close, it has been a very productive and accomplished year for NCASLA. Since landscape architecture is a critical component to any design or land planning project in North Carolina, the chapter hosted the annual Legislative Social and Breakfast. This social event brought LAs together to network and discuss "hot topics," so they could engage NC legislators the next morning about important issues that affect NC citizens landscape architecture. During the breakfast a new video was previewed of important North Carolina works of landscape architecture, and interviews with ASLA past president Susan Hatchell, FASLA and Kofi Boone, ASLA, a North Carolina State University professor who discussed the importance of the landscape architecture profession (video @ https://tinyurl.com/ycajrng4).

Attendees of the inaugural ASLA Southeast Regional Conference (June 8-10) in Charlotte, N.C., fielded 79 exhibitors highlighting new industry trends in services and products. The attendees enjoyed an educational packed conference, with networking, food and fun. The speakers afforded participants a wide range of topics and discussions, with 33 educational sessions and field tours. ASLA President Vaughn Rinner was on hand for the conference and addressed the audience during the SERC awards luncheon. Over 66 entries were submitted and judged by a panel from the NY-ASLA Chapter. Awards (https://tinyurl.com/ya3yejn9) went to 15 professional entries and 5 student entries.

Michael Askin led the chapter as president this year. He is a landscape architect with Landworks Design Group in Charlotte, N.C.

Special thanks go to the industry partners who supported the conference. Their support allows NCASLA to continue the mission to better promote and protect the landscape architecture profession.

The latest event was the 2nd Annual Golf Tourney on September 29 at The Crossings Golf Club in Durham, N.C. Golfers started the morning off testing their abilities on the practice green with chipping and putting contests. The day ended with BBQ and fried chicken in the clubhouse. NCASLA President Michael Askin thanked the annual sponsors and golf social sponsors for their support, without which we would be unable to provide the many events for the professionals in the state. Our future depends on all of us participating, promoting and advancing our profession.
