Encyclopedia of North American Trees

Available in March 2000

WESTPORT, CT

With easy-to-use references and stunning photography, this book promises to be a great resource for researchers, gardeners and any number of design professions including Landscape Architects.

Author Sam Benvie- who has a B.A. in Biology, an M.A. in Environmental Studies and a degree in Landscape Architectural Technology-shares all three of his educational studies in the book. Benvie is also the technical editor and co-author of a series of eight books on horticultural topics for North American gardeners.

Included in the book is detailed information about over 278 species of trees in our hemisphere (with an index of common names and their corresponding Latin species name), 350 photographs in brilliant full color, and illustrated descriptions of the important tree families and their common characteristics.

Also included is a tree-hardiness chart, a climate-zone map of the United States and Canada, and a list of places to visit to see particular trees. Readers who wish to know more about a particular tree or subject can reference the Places and Organizations section in the back of the book, which has an extensive list of gardens, arboretums and universities throughout the United States.
