I must say my pulse rises every time I hear a siren blaring in the distance. No, not because I'm ducking arrest warrants. It's because seeing those men and women decked out in full fire gear racing to a blaze gets me pumped up. Ever since I could remember I wanted to be a firefighter and as you can tell, I still do. Give me a helmet, a jacket and a hose and I'll be right there. Now I know there are some of you people out there in the landscape industry that feel the same way I do. So I want to share a way you can get that feeling while doing your job. Get a hold of a Reinco HG-30GX. This thing is as close as you can get to one of those water cannons mounted on a fire truck. Time to Spray Some Slurry! If you are looking for that feeling of power and control, well brother, this here "hydrograsser" is the toy for you. Just looking at the piece of equipment gives me a sense of power, so just imagine what it would be like to take control of the cannon mounted on the "grasser." The effective range of the sprayer is 160 feet. That would get you a few stories up in a building fire. However, I wouldn't test the vertical height of the sprayer in any sort of a breeze; you and the neighbors might be sprouting grass from your ears in a couple weeks. If you missed a spot in front "grasser," don't panic, the cannon has 360 degrees of articulation. But if that doesn't get you where you want to go, you can use the extension hose and increase your range up to the 350 feet. The user also gets their choice of three different supplied nozzles: long range, medium range, and a wide fan. The sprayer is powered by a pump pushing 750 gallons per minute (GPM) of slurry at 115 pounds per square inch. It also has a 1 1/4-inch particle clearance, is axially adjustable, and has a Reinco self-lubricating, low-maintenance, packing-type seal. Oh, and just in case you were wondering, the machine has a 115-Horsepower, water-cooled, EC John Deere Turbo-charged diesel engine. When you are talking about capacity, the tank holds a working volume of 3,000 gallons of water. The total volume capacity of combined slurry is 3,500 gallons. So, let's see, at 750 GPM, a guy could drain the tank in just under five minutes of steady spraying. In most cases when you talk about an agitation system, you are talking about the mother-in-law. Reinco has equipped the HG-30GX with a primary "Hydro-Jet" re-circulation system and a secondary "Quad-Blender" vortexing system. The two agitators work with a 100 to 500 RPM "Hydro-Jet" driven mulch grinder to create a homogenous slurry mix. So as you can see, a piece of equipment like this can satisfy the firefighter urges in all of us. In all seriousness though, I would like to personally thank the men and women who do their jobs without prejudice and risk their lives for the well being of others. To those who perished or survived the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 your bravery, courage and determination is more powerful than any manufactured piece of equipment. And to the nine Pennsylvania miners, you are the epitome of the "never-say-quit" working man; I'd share a can of chew with you any day. For more information about the HG-30GX visit www.reinco.com
