The CLASS Fund https://classfund.org, founded in 1980, continues to bring together landscape architects, contractors, suppliers, and affiliated members of the green industry to generate endowment funds for scholarships, internships, and fellowships at institutions offering curriculum in landscape architecture and related fields of study. The CLASS Fund is currently focused on increasing its endowment fund from $1.2 million to $2 million. The latest endeavor toward that goal was the June 15 golfing outing at the Newport Beach Country Club. This year, the annual event easily surpassed previous participation with 160 golfers. The event raised nearly $60,000. 2015 CLASS Fund Award CLASS Fund gives an annual Research Award to advance the body of knowledge for the landscape industry. The award supports scholarship and research among academic units in landscape architecture, horticulture and related fields in California and other states, provinces or jurisdictions of CELA, i.e., virtually all the programs of higher learning in landscape architecture in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The jury comprises members of CLASS Fund and CELA After the golf there was a dinner, auctions and awards with CLASS Fund chairman Marty McPhee (Park West Landscape, Inc.) presiding over the ceremonies. Andy Bowden, ASLA (Land Concern Ltd.), a CLASS Fund director, is to Marty's left. The recipient of the 2015 CLASS Fund Award is Dr. Bo Yang, principal investigator at Utah State University for his submission, "Green Infrastructure Design for Stormwater Quality and Climate Change Resilience: Monitoring and Modeling Study in Semiarid Environment." Dr. Yang's co-principal investigator is Dr. Shujuan Li, also of Utah State University. Hailey Ann Hall, a BLA student at Utah State University, will assist in their research. The research will monitor stormwater quality in Utah's largest green infrastructure community development, and create a stormwater management land use/hydrologic model that simulates climate change resilience of this community. The study will contribute to the research portfolio of green infrastructure performance in a semiarid environment.
