New York AB 7561/ SB 7220 Updates CEUs for Landscape Architects

Limits Carryover and Allows Additional Flexibility
by Rebecca Radtke, LASN

New York State Bill updates CE requirements and allows for flexibility.

The State of New York introduced AB 7561 / SB 7220 for the 2025-26 Legislative Session and has passed both Houses but not been transmitted to the Governor. Changes in the requirements were read by Board members and included recommendations. If the bill is passed and signed, the regulatory process will take 18 months and during that time Board members will be asked for confirmation of their prior CEU recommendations.

This legislation will eliminate a cap on how many hours may come from educational activities, allowing six hours to roll over to the next year, requiring those with lapsed registration to make up hours, exception clarification, and recognizing CEUs from other design professions.

The next Board meeting will be held on Dec. 3 in New York.
