The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) announces the launch of their two new websites, Byways and Bike Trails, which will assist citizens and visitors navigate the state's byways and bicycle trails.

IowaByways.org offers information on the state's routes, route history, local events, and travel services. The site also allows users the opportunity to customize their searches, plan out trip details, create a list of "favorites" to save, and share an e-postcard with others via email.

"The Iowa Byways site provides you a great look at all that Iowa has to offer in rich Midwest history and natural resources," Iowa DOT Highway Safety Program Manager Mary Stahlhut told news source RadioIowa. "Along the byways, you can find a lot of history, cultural and scenic and recreational opportunities and it's going to be a great resource for travelers coming to Iowa and for Iowans who don't know what's in their backyard."

The second new site is an online version of Iowa DOT's Transportation Map for Bicyclists. The site features an interactive Google map with complete up-to-date information to plan bicycle trips and find all routes, as well as things such as rest stops and restaurants along the way.
